Even though it’s about a breakup, Big Sean’s “IDFWU” comes off as distinctly upbeat and positive. His follow up Dark Sky Paradise release, the Drake and Kanye West-assisted “Blessings,” is ominous-yet-triumphant. For his latest leak, though, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper takes a more somber tone.
“Win Some, Lose Some” finds Sean linking back up with “Beware” collaborator Jhene Aiko for a tale of highs and lows.
He dives into his relationships with friends and family on the first verse. “You was a millionaire but your n—as is still at home/ Damn, n—a, you did it, but damn it you did it wrong/ You got time for that gig, but not time for the phone/ Got it right with your ends, but f–ked it up with your friends,” he raps early on.
In the next verse, it’s on to a romantic relationship gone awry.
“Sometimes the best teachers is ourselves goin’ through somethin’/ Real life will teach your ass way f–king fast/ I always thought my last girl was supposed to be my last,” he raps, possibly referring to ex-fiancée Naya Rivera, or his longtime previous girlfriend, Ashley.
The track will be included on Sean’s upcoming third album, Dark Sky Paradise, which drops on Feb. 24.
